‘Spem in Alium’ Choral Workshop
PROGRAMMEMerton College Chapel, Merton Street, Oxford OX1 4JD Saturday 16 May 2020 Director: Benjamin Nicholas 10:00 – 10:30 Registration: Merton College Chapel 10:30 – 10:45 Warm up in the Chapel with Carys Lane 10:45 – 12:30 Group practice sessions (with a short break at 11.45) in locations around Merton College Choirs 1 & 2 with Benjamin Nicholas Choirs 3 & 4 with Alex Little Choirs 5 & 6 with Tom Fetherstonhaugh Choirs 7 & 8 with Carys Lane 12:30 – 13:30 Lunch (Bring a picnic to eat in Merton College Gardens or use local cafes) 13:30 – 15:00 Tutti rehearsal in Merton Chapel with Benjamin Nicholas 15:00 – 15:45 Break: tea, coffee and cake 15:45 – 16:30 CONCERT PERFORMANCE: If ye love me Spem in alium (up to three times) Approx 16.30 Finish IMPORTANT INFORMATION 1. Email confirmation will be sent once we have received your booking form and payment. a. Parts will be allocated across the eight choirs on a first come first served basis and the music in pdf form will be sent with your email confirmation. b. PLEASE NOTE: the voice part pdf we send you will show the music for two choirs, please make sure you learn the correct one for the choir you have been allocated. c. The music will be sung a semitone higher than printed on the scores. d. If there is a surfeit of singers: Sopranos – will be offered alto parts Altos – will be offered tenor parts Tenors – will be offered baritone parts Baritones – will be offered tenor parts Basses – will be offered baritone parts 2. Tea, coffee and cake will be provided in the afternoon break but please feel free to bring your own flask. Some water will be available but we encourage you to supply your own as there will be a lot of singing! 3. For any further information email workshop@oxfordbachchoir.org 4. The workshop may be recorded and/or photographs taken for use on our website and on social media. We will assume that you have no problem with this unless we hear from you. Travel and parking information A map can be found on the College’s visitor information page: https://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/visitor-information Merton is located in central Oxford on Merton Street, which is just off the High Street. Oxford is less than sixty miles from London off the M40, with excellent transport links via train and coach. Here is a Google map showing Merton College in relation to the city centre and the train station. Oxford is an ancient, pedestrian-friendly city, with many one-way streets and limited parking. If you're travelling to Merton by car we encourage you to use the excellent Park and Ride services in Oxford (of which there are five).
