About Benson Choral Society BCS is a large and thriving choir of over 100 singers. There are no auditions to join, which guarantees that our membership has a wide and varied range of vocal expertise and experience. Singers travel from as far afield as Oxford, Reading, and Henley as well as the local centres of Benson, Watlington and Wallingford to sing with us. The common interest that brings us together is a love of the music we perform, a willingness to embrace new challenges as well as the best choral masterpieces, together with the knowledge that we will learn the music in an enjoyable and productive atmosphere, performing eventually to an enviably high standard. We take great pride in the professionalism of our concerts, and in the support we are given by our own Elgar Orchestra and high-calibre professional soloists.
Concerts are usually held in the wonderfully atmospheric Dorchester Abbey, and we rehearse in St Mary's Church, Wallingford. The Church is in the heart of Wallingford town centre and is a light, bright and welcoming venue, with comfortable chairs, an excellent piano and a rewarding acoustic in which to sing. There is always a refreshment break during the weekly two-hour rehearsal, and if 15 minutes proves insufficient for their weekly catch-up, members often continue socialising after the rehearsal at one of the many local bars.
