Spanish soprano Lorena Paz Nieto is a previous winner of the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform, and the Ludmilla Andrews Russian Song Prize.

Lorena is a National Opera Studio alumna 17/18, and trained on the opera course at the Royal Academy of Music in London under the tutelage of Philip Doghan and Audrey Hyland, achieving distinction in her Masters and a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. Before this, she received a BMus (First Class Hons.) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studied with Kate Patterson and Lada Valesovà. 

During her time at the NOS, Lorena performed scenes directed by Christopher Alden, Keith Warner, Max Hoehn and Emma Jenkins. Role excerpts included Dorinda Orlando (Opera North), Anne Truelove The Rakes Progress (Scottish Opera), and Susana Le Nozze di Figaro, Nanetta Falstaff, Tytania A MidSummerNight's Dream, Susana Figaro gets a divorce (Welsh National Opera). Other recent operatic roles include Morgana in Handel's Alcina, Drusilla, Fortuna and Pallade in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, Amore in Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria for the Grange Festival, Barbarina in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Diane in Offenbach's Orpheè aus Enfers, Pannochka in Rimsky-Korsakov's May Night and Cis in Britten's Albert Herring, Gloria in the UK premier of Duráns' O Arame, Despina in Così fan tutte for Holloway Opera and Marie in Donizetti's La fille du Regiment for Jackdaws.

Notable concert performances have included recitals at the Oxford Lieder Festival, St John's Smith Square, Aberdeen International Youth Festival, the Llandeilo Festival of Music, and a residency at the Two Moors Festival. Lorena was a Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Scholar, featuring as a soloist for the Academy's popular cantata series, and part of their prestigious Song Circle. Recent oratorio repertoire includes Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Vivaldi's Gloria, Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Tippett's A child of our time, Orff's Carmina Burana and Monteverdi's Vespers at The Three Choir Festival. 

This season Lorena will perform recitals at the Heidelberger Frühling Festival, in Mallorca for the Kirker Foundation, and will revisit the role of Marie in La fille du Regiment, as well as making her role debut as Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème.
