Christopher Walker was awarded an LEA scholarship to Chetham's
School in Manchester at the age of nine, and was a chorister at the
Cathedral there for five years. He read music at the University of
Hull, where he also studied the violin with Louis Carus.
Chris has conducted the Benson Choral Society since 1975 when he
took over from Mrs Helen Cain. During that time he has taught
locally, first at Wallingford School and, from 1978 to 2001, as
Director of Music at The Henley College.
He has been heavily involved in much local music making,
including conducting the Henley Choral Society for several years,
and he is currently principal viola and assistant conductor of the
Henley Symphony Orchestra. In 2000 he was appointed Conductor of the
Reading Youth Orchestra.
Chris is an examiner for the OCR in A level Music Performance,
and he examines in the UK and abroad, most recently Hong Kong, for
the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
