About Us

We are a friendly and thriving choir of 120 singers that enjoys singing large choral works. As the list below shows, we like to embrace the new as well as the more traditional. Unlike some choirs, we don’t have auditions. We simply rely on our members’ ability to judge their own capabilities, which works well for us.

Concerts are held in the wonderfully atmospheric Dorchester Abbey. Concert days start with rehearsals with the professional soloists and orchestra who are chosen by our Musical Director. Staging concerts is an expensive business, but the choir is well managed and on sound financial footing. This enables us to achieve the often ambitious plans that we set ourselves. In our Golden Jubilee year, for example, we commissioned Andrew Carter to write Laudate Dominum (repeated in 2015).

Making Music membership means we can participate in their events, and occasionally we run our own workshops so we can spend a day getting to grips with something new.

Choir Member's come from various towns and villages around Wallingford as can be seen on the Members Map

Rehearsals

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 –  9.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Market Place, Wallingford, OX10 0EG. The Church is in the heart of Wallingford town centre and is a light, bright and cosy venue, with comfortable chairs, and a rewarding acoustic in which to sing.  More details are on this web page

The refreshment break at half time gives us a chance to socialise, and afterwards many members take the opportunity to relax in a local hostelry.
